Ever since I was little, I have been making things by
hand. I did not grow up in a rich family and we always
had to manage with whatever we had at that time. A
worn dress became a new skirt, heavy drapery became
a winter coat, and shoes were decorated by hand.
Clothes were re-shaped and re-adjusted many times.
Used bottles were turned into vases adorned with dried
flowers. My favorite and only toy monkey received
many face lifts. This childhood background is now a
part of me and all throughout my life I continue to come
up with ideas and designs for handcrafted items.
How it started
My collection was inspired during one of my regular shopping days. It was inconvenient to try
and hold my purse on my shoulder or be afraid that someone would take it from the shopping
cart, so I started looking for some kind of “over-the-shoulder” bag, but everything was either too
bulky or too heavy or had too many locks & zippers. So I had an idea to crochet one. I am a
pretty good knitter, but didn’t use a hook for years. When I found “the ultimate” yarn for my
bag (black at that time), I made myself one in a few hours, because I was so excited to crochet
and put my idea to work immediately.
My over-the-shoulder flat, 5”x6” black bag was lightweight, had only one main compartment and
I could even hook my key chain to it. Since then I take my convenient purse everywhere –
stores, concerts, kid’s games, doctor offices, even through airport security check points.
People ask me all the time where did I buy the pouch and when they hear that I made it – they
are amazed. Over time I crocheted many purses and handbags (in different variety of sizes,
shapes & color combinations) for my friends, their kids, my piano pupils, and college students.
All designs are from scratch – I do not put them down on paper – they are all in my head. Every
time I am crocheting a bag, I modify and improve the previous design, change the shape, and
come up with evermore useful tips for the future ones. That is why every single handbag is totally
unique – each is truly one of a kind.
I love my purse and I hope you can enjoy yours as I have.
